Have you been watching COSMOS? In a recent episode, Neil deGrasse Tyson explores the cosmic calendar, starting with the big bang on January 1. On this scale, a billion years is compressed down into about a month, and humans come on the scene on December 31, 11:54 PM.
The cosmic calendar also makes an appearance in a course on OCW: 12.007 Geobiology. This course introduces the parallel evolution of life and the environment, and the cosmic calendar is seen in the introductory lecture (PDF), slide 13. The vast amounts of time that elapse on cosmological and geological timescales are mind-boggling, and tools like the cosmic calendar can help us make sense of them.
