Yesterday, the State Department hosted initial meeting and announcement of the Open Book Project, an initiative of the US State Department, the Arab League Education, Culture and Science Organization, and leading education innovators including MIT OpenCourseWare.

The goal of the project is to develop Arabic language open educational resources.  US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton chaired the meeting–her remarks are available on the State Department Web site.  You can read our press release here.
In support of the project, MIT OpenCourseWare hopes to expand our translation efforts to include Arabic translation affiliates.  We’re thrilled to be joined in supporting the project by MIT BLOSSOMS, which brings a unique collection of educational resources to the table, many of which are created in or translated into Arabic already.
